Modern Slang

Relative newcomers to the Memphis rock scene, Modern Slang is mixing things up with their fusion of blues, southern rock, and grime.

The band consists of 5 guys all in their early 20s: Jaeci King, a.k.a. THE MANE 1, on vocals, Kris Sharp and Scotty Ogden on guitar, Ben Morrell on bass, and Ryan Saucier on drums.  Modern Slang, formerly known as The Swagger, was founded in Memphis and has been together for almost a year.  The guys take pride in Memphis, which they consider a competitive city for music.  "We stay true to the roots of our city and play 'real' blues based rock 'n roll."

Modern Slang is currently in the process of recording their debut album, self-titled "Modern Slang."  They do all their own recording at their house.  According to the band, "True classic rock 'n roll is what moves and inspires us.  Not today's overly-produced, crybaby rock."  With their lo-fi, noisy recordings, "Modern Slang is keeping' it nitty-gritty in the River City."

For Modern Slang, the best part about being musicians is doing what they love.  "Each show we play, more and more people show support and let us know that they like what we're doing, and that we're not wasting our time or theirs." They have played shows at places like Neil's, the Poplar Lounge, the Vine, and Minglewood Hall, and have upcoming gigs at the Hi-tone and Rhodes College.
